About
Museum of the Chicken & Gift Shop had its beginnings in the
Village of Fair Oaks in California.
Since chickens have been pretty much running the town for the last
35 years it only seemed appropriate to honor them.
There are lots of stories about how that happened but nobody
really seems to be sure how it began.
Today we have hundreds of chicken of all varieties
living around the town, the park and particularly at
”Slocum House” a very upscale restaurant
About every day you can see a motorist sitting
and waiting for a chicken to “cross the road”.
So as far as the buses, cars and motorcycles are concerned the
chickens have the right-of-way.
As of September, 2006, we began to celebrate the chickens
with a Chicken Festival!
Several pet chickens arrived on the shoulders of their owners.
Both chicken and owner were “decked out” in their finest.
Live music added to the atmosphere, but I don’t thing anyone
thought of playing the Chicken Polka.
We had 8,000 people looking at our chickens and wondering
how many there were.
Our chickens are quite a variety!
Many look like the traditional chicken but we also have lots of Silkies.
It is so interesting how their personalities vary!
The Silkies seem to be a little more mellow while the
other chickens are so serious.
At the Museum of the Chicken & Gift Shop we have been fortunate that
people have donated artwork and memorabilia.
So at the present time we have watercolors, a couple of chicken lamps
cards, mouse pads, coasters, chicken soap, a basket,
chicken collectibles and more.
Some are for sale and some are just for
the Museum of the Chicken.
In August of this year, we will have
the First Annual Chicken Art Show!
So artists are now working hard to
bring out all the different
renditions of chickens!
No doubt, there will not be any two alike!
